Our exhibits invite visitors to walk up and try something even if they don't know what will happen. The exhibit rewards the initial trust offered by the visitor and offers them significant freedom to create and explore. Visitors often spend 20 minutes or more exploring the full potential of our exhibits. Though we often use sophisticated technology in the fabrication of our exhibits, we always focus on what the visitor sees, hears, and feels when they use the exhibit. We build and evaluate prototypes to understand the visitor experience, using observations and interviews to test how visitors use mocked-up versions of our exhibits before we commit to a final design. Because we perform both design and fabrication we have the chance to revise and change subtle aspects of an exhibit's layout until its operation is intuitive.
